The "PROgrammable, cancer TargEted and Cancer responsive therapeutics and Theranostics" (PROTECT) project is aiming to provide insight on the chemical space requirements to develop selective modulators for the undruggable oncogenic Intrinsically Disordered Proteins (IDPs) and to generate programmable, cancer selective and cancer responsive drug delivery vehicles for their selective transport in cancer cells.

It is a cooperation among the the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Department of Chemistry, University of Ioannina (Greece), the Magnetic Resonance Center (CERM), of University of Florence (Italy), the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Imperial College, London (UK) and the Stanford University, Department of Chemistry, Stanford (USA), hosted by the University of Ioannina.

The project is funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) under the “1st Call for H.F.R.I. Research Projects to support Faculty Members & Researchers and the Procurement of High-Cost Research Equipment Grant” (Project Number: 991).

Workflow

The PROTECT project is designed to comprehensively decipher the chemical space to develop modulators for oncogenic IDPs. The experimental work will be conducted in six work packages that will be under the responsibility of designate team members. Part of the work will be performed in parallel while other sections will be done in a sequential manner. Through this project we will consolidate an integral drug discovery pipeline customized for undruggable oncotargets.
